Venice Man Killed By Police Identified

Authorities identified a 53-year-old Venice man shot and killed by police Friday.

VENICE, CA — Authorities Wednesday identified a man who was killed in an officer-involved shooting at a residence in Venice.

Todd Hurlburt, 53, of Venice died at a hospital following the shooting, which occurred about 8:30 p.m. Friday in the 800 block of Venice Boulevard, according to the coroner's office.

Officers went to the location on a report of a man who was armed with a rifle and destroying property inside the home, the Los Angeles Police Department reported. They were met outside by a woman who told them what was happening, police said.

As the officers approached the front door, they were met by the suspect, who was armed with a rifle, and an officer-involved shooting occurred, police said. No one else was injured.

Police said a rifle was recovered at the scene of the shooting.
