VIDEO: 1 Found Dead At Site Of 'Suspicious' LA Fourplex Fire

A man was found dead in Westchester Wednesday morning after firefighters entered an on-fire, vacant, boarded-up residential structure.

WEST LOS ANGELES COUNTY -- A man was found dead in the Westchester neighborhood of Los Angeles Wednesday morning after firefighters entered an on-fire, vacant, boarded-up residential structure.

The Los Angeles Fire Department responded to a 9-1-1 call at 5:45 am June 4, and found light smoke showing from a vacant, boarded-up 3,542 square-foot two-story residential four-plex.

A total of 26 firefighters under the command of Battalion Chief Kenneth Miller accessed the interior of the burning structure, extinguishing flames in 34 minutes. While inside, firefighters discovered a lifeless 30 year-old male downstairs in the front of one unit and carried him from the hot, smoke-charged dwelling.

LAFD paramedics found the man to be deceased and beyond medical assistance.

Why the man was in the building and the origin of the fire are both currently unknown, but LAPD and LAFD Arson/Counter Terrorism Unit investigators were combing through the debris on Wednesday, examining burn patterns and interviewing witnesses.

A positive identification of the dead man, as well as the cause, time and manner of his death will be determined by the Los Angeles County Department of Medical Examiner-Coroner.

Monetary loss from the fire is still being tabulated. The cause of the fire remains under active investigation.
