Watch: Burglary Suspects Leads Police On The Rare Water Chase
A burglary suspect waded through the waves in Venice, leading police on a soggy chase before they cuffed him at the Santa Monica Pier.
LOS ANGELES, CA — A burglary suspect who ran from officers in Venice waded through the surf and led police on a soggy chase, forcing them to go into the water and cuff him before he made it to crowded Santa Monica Pier.
The chase began around 1:50 p.m. in the area of Paloma Avenue and Ocean Front Walk when police tried to arrest a suspect on a burglary warrant, according to the Los Angeles Police Department.
The suspect ran, but there were officers all around him on the ground and a police helicopter crew hovering overhead. He had nowhere to go but out to sea.
As he made a break for the water officers kept pace with him on the sand. At least once, the officers ran toward him, prompting the suspect to run into deeper water. The officers then backed away and continued following him north.
