2 Men Charged In Macy's Jewelry Theft: Walnut Creek
Macy's lost over $145,000, between the jewelry and damage to the store.
WALNUT CREEK, CA — Two men face multiple felony charges in connection with last Friday's smash-and-grab theft at Macy's in Walnut Creek. Shortly after the theft, Walnut Creek Police arrested Christopher Dopp and Richard Lange. They are accused of stealing $65,244 worth of gold jewelry and doing $80,000 in damage to the store, for a total of $145,000 in losses for Macy's.
The Contra Costa County District Attorney’s Office announced Thursday that it has filed multiple felony charges against the pair.
According to Scott Alonso of the DA's Office, "The defendants were spotted by store employees on the first floor of the store as the pair smashed display cases. The defendants fled the scene after the employees saw the pair destroying the display cases. Ultimately, Walnut Creek Police Officers apprehended the burglars as they left the store. In total, the damage to the store totaled over $80,000 from the broken glass."

Lange has been charged with Second Degree Burglary, Grand Theft of Personal Property, Vandalism Over $400 Damage, Special Allegation Serious or Violent Felony Prior, and Special Allegation of Two Prior Offenses. Bail for Lange was set at $170,000.
As for Dopp, he is charged with Second Degree Burglary, Grand Theft of Personal Property, and Vandalism Over $400 Damage. Bail for Dopp was set at $35,000.

Both men have bailed out of jail.
