3 More Coronavirus Deaths In Contra Costa County Friday

At the beginning of the week, there were 11 coronavirus deaths in the county; now, there are 19.

CONTRA COSTA COUNTY, CA — The coronavirus death toll has increased each day this week in Contra Costa County. On Friday, three more people were added to the grim statistics. With the three additional deaths, 19 Contra Costa County residents have lost their lives to the outbreak.

Another 13 people have been diagnosed with COVID-19, the illness caused by coronavirus, bringing the total infections to 648, with 38 patients hospitalized.

The cases are divided unevenly between men and women, with 353 women diagnosed, and 290 men.

Looking beyond Contra Costa County, at 11:45 a.m. on Friday, Johns Hopkins University reported that California has 28,196 confirmed cases of coronavirus. The states reporting more cases than California are New York, New Jersey, Massachusetts, Pennsylvania, and Michigan.

As for deaths, California reports 976. At the current rate of deaths in California, the death toll will likely surpass 1,000 in the next 24 hours.

The county with the most deaths is Los Angeles with 457, followed by Santa Clara with 69, San Diego has 63, Riverside has 59, and San Bernardino has 47.

Nationwide, the United States leads the world in both confirmed cases and deaths. Confirmed cases have reached 683,786, with 34,575 deaths.

Around the world, there have been 150,948 deaths and 2,214,861 confirmed cases.
