$200K Offered To First Time Walnut Creek Homebuyers — New Program Has No Equity Sharing

WALNUT CREEK, CA — A new program aims to make homeownership more attainable for first-time buyers in Walnut Creek and the East Bay.

The Home Access Program, launched by Housing Trust Silicon Valley, offers up to $200,000 in down payment assistance covering up to 40-percent of a home's purchase price for eligible buyers in Alameda and Contra Costa counties.

This assistance comes as a 30-year deferred loan, meaning no monthly payments are required. Repayment is due only when the home is sold or after the loan term ends.

The homebuyer retains all equity.

The program applies to single-family homes, townhomes, and condominiums.
To qualify, applicants must:

• Be first-time homebuyers (not having owned or lived in a home they or their spouse owned in the past three years).
• Have a household income at or below 80-percent of the county's median income ($84,600 for a single person or $120,800 for a family of four in Contra Costa County).
• Contribute at least 3-percent of the home's purchase price.
• Complete a HUD-approved homebuyer education course.
• Obtain pre-approval from a program-approved lender.
