CONTRA COSTA COUNTY, CA — Prosecutors charged a well-known Bay Area rapper with murder in what they say was a targeted, gang-related shooting half a decade ago.
Reno Goldie Fiapoto, 26, who goes by the name of Tear It Off Greezy, is accused of killing a Richmond man in 2021.
Fiapoto faces charges of shooting Derrick McDougal, according to charges by the Contra Costa County District Attorney’s Office.
The shooting happened on the 2200 block of Barrett Avenue in Richmond at about 8:40 a.m. on March 16, 2021. Police arrested Fiapoto on April 14, and investigators referred the case to prosecutors the following day.
The complaint charges Fiapoto with murder and adds three sentencing enhancements. Prosecutors say he acted as an active participant in a criminal street gang, discharged a firearm causing great bodily injury and death, and intentionally fired the weapon at McDougal.
Authorities also charged him with unlawful participation in a criminal street gang. The Tre-4 gang, originating in San Francisco, also calls itself “Tear It Off," according to reports.
Investigators from the Richmond and San Francisco police departments, working with the FBI and a regional Major Crimes Task Force, spent years building the case. Fiapoto was already known to police in several counties.
A judge arraigned Fiapoto Tuesday afternoon at the A.F. Bray Courts Building Annex in Martinez. Authorities are holding him without bail at the Martinez Detention Facility.
Judge Glenn Kim will preside over the case in Department 29. The court scheduled a preliminary hearing for April 27 at 8:30 a.m. in Martinez.
