CONTRA COSTA COUNTY, CA — A crash is choking off a major East Bay artery, turning the morning drive from Orinda, Moraga and Walnut Creek into a slow crawl toward Oakland.
The collision on Highway 24 has backed traffic up to the Caldecott Tunnel, where cars are stacking up and forward movement has nearly stalled. The bottleneck is cutting off one of the primary routes into Oakland, forcing commuters to sit through extended delays or search for alternate paths.
Officials have not released details about injuries or when lanes might fully clear, leaving drivers bracing for a prolonged disruption along the already congested corridor.
Crews are still on the scene clearing the lanes.
