Walnut Creek Officers Carry 'Flame Of Hope' Through Downtown

WALNUT CREEK, CA — Crowds along city streets watched Walnut Creek police officers and city staff run beside the Special Olympics Flame of Hope as the Law Enforcement Torch Run pushed through downtown on its route across the region.

The Walnut Creek team received the torch from police departments in Concord and Pleasant Hill, then carried it roughly 3.5 miles from Pleasant Hill into Broadway Plaza, where officers handed the flame to Danville police to continue the relay.

The annual Torch Run brings together law enforcement agencies from across California to raise money and awareness for Special Olympics programs that support athletes with intellectual disabilities.

Officers, city employees, and supporters lined portions of the route as runners moved the flame through busy commercial corridors and neighborhood streets.

Walnut Creek officials praised the city’s runners for carrying the torch through the community and helping spotlight the athletes and programs the event supports each year.
