BART officials first reported the incident at about 10:30 a.m. A spokesperson said the person entered the trackway for an unknown reason as a train approached the station. The Contra Costa County Fire Protection District later confirmed that the train hit the person, according to reports.

Emergency crews took the injured person to a hospital, BART spokesperson Michelle Robertson told reporters. Officials did not release their condition. However, a major medical injury often indicates the incident involved a fatality.

BART closed Walnut Creek station after the incident, which happened at about 10:45 a.m. The agency reopened the station at about 11:16 a.m., according to the agency.

The collision caused major delays on the Yellow Line in the Antioch and San Francisco International Airport directions.

BART officials said they did not suspect foul play.
