WALNUT CREEK, CA — A guns and ammunition business wants to transform a vacant former Lewis & Lewis Carpets building into a nine-lane indoor shooting range, expanding the 3,000-square-foot building to 4,280 square feet.
The proposal by Elite Armory calls for firearms training, instructional classes, and retail sales inside the building at 2615 N. Main St.
Elite Armory also proposes an exterior remodel, reconfigured parking stalls, a new trash enclosure, landscaping, lighting, exterior security cameras, and an interior rolling security shutter.
The Walnut Creek Design Review Commission will consider the proposal Wednesday, but the commission will not decide whether to grant final approval.
The commission will review the building expansion and design, site layout, colors and materials, landscaping, lighting, and the location and screening of utilities. Commissioners will then make a recommendation to the Planning Commission.
The Planning Commission will consider the project's California Environmental Quality Act determination, Conditional Use Permit, and final Design Review at a later date.
Meeting: Wednesday, 6 p.m., Council Chamber, 1666 North Main St. and online.
