Anti-Semitic Robocalls Support Congressional Candidate

The Republican candidate for Congress In California's 11th District disavows the calls, but his stance remains unchanged.

CONTRA COSTA COUNTY, CA — Robocalls in support of Republican John Fitzgerald, who is campaigning to unseat Rep. Mark DeSaulnier (D), include an anti-Semitic tirade that claims "Jews have dominance over America."

The calls were paid for by TheRoadToPower.com, and Fitzgerald has disavowed them. He wrote on his campaign website, "I want to make it clear, I am NOT responsible for this call and DID NOT authorize and/or give my permission to Road To Power or anyone else to have these messages go out to the public!"

However, on his website, his platform includes the comment, "As a member of Congress, I will vote to use the men and women of our armed forces to protect our borders, not the financial interests of Israel and Jewish supremacists or elitists." Comments from readers on his website are peppered with anti-Semitic remarks.

According to Jewish publication Forward, the full robocall says, “Ban the Jewish takeover of America and restore our democracy by voting John Fitzgerald for U.S. Congress. Even if you are a registered democrat, it’s no longer a real democracy when the 2% ethnic minority that are Jews have dominance over America and used it to serve the foreign country of Israel.

"Your vote for Fitzgerald," it continues, "means no more U.S. wars for Israel based on their lies, like the Jewish-conducted attack of 9/11. Don’t be swindled by their cliche slander of him as being a neo-Nazi, which only shows how dumb they think you are.”

The California Republican Party refuses to endorse Fitzgerald's campaign. In a statement earlier this year, the party said, "Tonight, the California Republican Party’s Board of Directors took swift and decisive action to eliminate any support for John Fitzgerald due to anti-Semitic comments he made recently — those views have no home in the Republican Party. As always, California Republicans reject anti-Semitism, and all forms of religious bigotry, in the harshest terms possible. We reject John Fitzgerald’s campaign and encourage all voters to do the same."

California's 11th Congressional District is heavily Democratic.
