Assistance League Diablo Valley Names its Making a Difference Awardee
Carolina Alas Hemphill had served with distinction on the Assistance League Diablo Valley's Advisory Council for six years.

As in previous years, Assistance League® Diablo Valley has bestowed the Making a Difference Award to individuals who have had a behind-the-scenes impact in support of the community’s vulnerable through its 16 hands-on programs.
In 2014, Carolina Alas Hemphill brought volunteers from Wells Fargo Bank to help bag school clothes during an Operation School Bell® event. One of her young co-workers recognized the facility as the place he had once visited to receive new school clothes. This inspired Carolina to become a faithful Community Partner, thereby making Assistance League Diablo Valley’s Operation School Bell her go to nonprofit organization.
Since then, Carolina has gathered groups of volunteers to assemble baby bags, fill food boxes and stuff innumerable bags with school uniforms. Her philanthropic efforts reached beyond the Assistance League Offices. One year, Carolyn purchased tacos from a nearby food truck and sold them to her co-workers, at a reasonable profit, which she then donated to Assistance league Diablo Valley.

Recently, Carolina found a new focus when she joined Walnut Creek Rotarians and continued to bring teams of volunteers to the Chapter Offices, where they filled food boxes and bagged school clothing. She also encouraged a group of Rotarians to paint the Assistance League Offices.
The Making a Difference Award is not automatically granted every year. Carolina Alas Hemphill’s dedication, gracious generosity, innovative and tireless energy prove her to be a most worthy recipient of the Making a Difference Award.
