"Together, we'll go far!"

As seen in photo, Assistance League of Diablo Valley Corporate Partners Committee Chair Linda Mercer (far right), welcomes Wells Fargo Branch Managers Cassey Cabrera, Sara Berg, Hugo Arellano, Michael Gurevich, Ken Ly, Tim Butterini, District Manager Regina Gentry, Ron Lomboy, Marco Ignacio, and Ashley Gurevich to a recent Operation School Bell - Clothing bagging event.

Assistance League® of Diablo Valley’s Operation School Bell® - Clothing is a nationally acclaimed, hands-on philanthropic program that has served the local community since 1994. Last year alone, 6,000 students in grades K-12 received new clothes, all of which contributed to improved school attendance, campus citizenship and academic performance.

Since 2006, Assistance League of Diablo Valley has forged a Corporate Partners component, resulting in employee volunteers from local businesses and corporations becoming hands-on involved and contributing financially to several of its philanthropic programs.

On September 21, at 8:45 a.m., Wells Fargo District Manager of Consumer Banking Division and team leader Regina Gentry arrived with a contingent of local branch managers, some of them returnees, at the Community Resource Center in Walnut Creek for a rigorous Operation School Bell - Clothing bagging event. One branch manager, Hugo Arellano, shared that he was an Operation School Bell - Clothing recipient when in elementary school. In fact, he used the backpack he received for three years and added, “That was really cool. I’m happy to be back.”

After a brief presentation from Corporate Partners Committee Chairman Linda Mercer, the energetic employee volunteers reported to the chapter’s Annex, where they placed six pairs of socks, six pairs of underwear, one sweatshirt, two pairs of pants for boys or one pair of pants and one skort (upon request) for the girls, and three white, collared shirts into 250 reusable bags in a mere 2.5 hours! At 11 a.m., a bus arrived to transport the bags to Parkside Elementary School (GO PANTHERS!!!), in Pittsburg, for distribution to eager and appreciative schoolchildren.

When two community-minded organizations pool their resources in support of our most treasured asset, our youth, everyone in the community wins! “Together, we’ll go far!” truly defined the event.
