Assistance League® of Diablo Valley is a nonprofit, member volunteer organization dedicated to improving lives in our community through its ten hands-on programs. At the April Regular meeting, El Monte Elementary School Principal Christina Boman offered valuable feedback when she shared how Assistance League of Diablo Valley has impacted the school’s overall performance.

As mandated by the Mt. Diablo Unified School District, students wear uniforms, many of which are provided by Operation School Bell®. This support offers a significant savings for parents coping with exorbitant rent and housing costs. Current thinking asserts that uniforms improve school attendance, campus citizenship and overall performance. Viewed as renewable resources, many of these uniforms are turned in at the end of the year so that parent volunteers can mend and launder them for future use by other children.

Likewise, the El Monte Bulldogs enjoy monthly visits from R.E.A.D. (Read, Explore, Achieve, Discover) volunteers who share their love of reading with second grade students. The R.E.A.D. program fortifies this support by donating books for the classrooms and money designated for library book purchases.

Ms. Boman concluded her presentation with heartfelt thanks to Assistance League of Diablo Valley for empowering the El Monte students with the desire to achieve. She added that the support Operation School Bell and the R.E.A.D. programs have provided El Monte Elementary School enriches students’ emotional and academic growth. Since 2007, El Monte Elementary School has emerged from the lowest performing elementary feeder school to the highest performing elementary school. Go Bulldogs!
