Assistance League Way Side Inn Thrift Shop Relives Pioneer Days and Western Roundup

Member volunteers at Assistance League Way Side Inn Thrift Shop, located at 3521 Golden Gate Way, in Lafayette, urge you to “Go West!”—west on Highway 24, that is. The Pioneer Days & Western Roundup event will gallop into town starting on Tuesday, February 3. Women’s and girls’ handmade, three piece pioneer outfits that include a dress, a bonnet, and an apron will be available. Sewn by a member volunteer of Assistance League of Diablo Valley, these garments chronicle an era that shaped the American Experience. Not only will they offer hours of imaginative entertainment, they will provide an excellent teaching tool where students can dramatize a significant chapter in our nation’s history.

Blue aproned sidekicks will help you rope Western leather boots for men, women and children. These boots were meant not only for walking, they’ve been known to leave a dance floor smoldering! Continuing the western theme, you’ll find hats, belts, bandanas, purses, jackets, and shirts that will easily spruce up your wardrobe. Decorative pillows, as well as VHS tapes and books will help you capture that western spirit of gumption and grit.

Speaking of books, you’ll have a chance to ante up if you would like to donate any books written about the American pioneer spirit or the taming of the American West. Understandably, the names Laura Ingles Wilder, whose birth site is commemorated by a replica log cabin, the Little House Wayside, and Louis L’Amour will come to mind. Their works, a blend of literary adventure set against historic backdrop, remain significant contributions in American literature. The list of other American authors is endless; Brett Harte, Samuel Clemens, Jack London, etc.
