Assistance League® of Diablo Valley’s Operation School Bell®-Clothing is a nationally acclaimed, hands-on philanthropic program that continues to serve schoolchildren in our local community. Its rationale: If children do not feel comfortable in their attire, they do not attend to the learning task. In recent years, the program has expanded to meet the growing needs of the community.

Since 2006, Assistance League Diablo Valley has enjoyed a Community Partners component, where employee volunteers from local businesses, corporations and civic agencies provide hands-on service in the organization’s activities and contribute financially to its programs. In preparation for a recent retail shopping event at Burlington, Pleasant Hill, Assistance League Diablo Valley’s Operation School Bell-Clothing had designated $100, money raised by its thrift shop in Lafayette, for each identified child to buy clothes.

On Wednesday, October 18, Operation School Bell volunteers greeted return Community Partners from Martinez Refinery. Soon after, schoolchildren from Sun Terrace Elementary STEM Magnet School, Mt. Diablo Unified School District, arrived to shop for school clothes. Upon arrival, each child selected a colorful snap band bracelet and proceeded to shop for success. On Thursday, October 19, each recipient child reported to school with a “Now, I’m ready” look.
