City Seeks Volunteer Projects for Oct. 6

Community agencies can sign up to be a sponsor for second annual Walnut Creek Community Service Day.

The city of Walnut Creek is asking community organizations to submit volunteer projects for inclusion in the city's Community Service Day, set for Saturday, Oct. 6.

In last October debut of Walnut Creek Community Service Day, two-thirds of the 1,000-plus people who volunteered for 42 projects had no previous involvement with their sponsors. Through the volunteer opportunity, volunteers learned about the good works of their sponsoring agency.

Below are excerpts from a city news release on Community Service Day:

Among the success stories, at the inaugural Community Service Day, volunteers:

  • Painted the Meals on Wheels parking lot
  • Beautified the Garden of Hope at the Cancer Support Community
  • Cleaned and organized a storage building at Lindsay Wildlife Museum
  • Built a bridge and retaining wall at Howe Homestead Park
  • Sanded and stained outdoor furniture at Bancroft Elementary School

Community Service Day committee members will work with project sponsors to ensure their project’s success. Projects must be appropriate for a range of ages and abilities, and be accomplished in about four hours.

For project guidelines and a submittal form, see the city website.
