Contra Costa Water District Board Appoints New Board Member

Ernesto Avila was unanimously voted in on Wednesday.

CONTRA COSTA COUNTY, CA - The Contra Costa Water District board of directors appointed a new member last week. Ernesto Avila was unanimously voted Wednesday to fill the vacancy left by the retirement of board president Joseph Campbell, district officials said.

According to district officials, the Contra Costa Water District received 10 applications from highly qualified candidates, and from those six were chosen for interviews before the board chose Avila.

"Board members unanimously agreed that Mr. Avila will uphold the board's commitment to represent the needs of our customers and provide high-quality water service with enthusiasm," Contra Costa Water District board vice president Lisa Borba said in a statement.

Avila is a Concord resident and currently vice president of a private engineering firm. He was previously an employee of the Contra Costa Water District before accepting a position running a water agency in the Monterey area. He has been a planning commissioner with the city of Concord for the past 10 years and is an active member of the Concord community.

According to district officials, Avila will participate in his first board meeting on April 6.
