In response to the COVID-19 pandemic, the City of Walnut Creek is pleased to announce a partnership with SHELTER, Inc. for emergency housing (rent, mortgage, and utility) assistance for low-income residents. The program is made possible from Community Development Block Grant Coronavirus (CDBG-CV) funds to support low-income households affected by the COVID-19 pandemic.

- Applicant must be an eligible low-income household
- Tenant’s inability to pay housing (rent, mortgage, or utility) bills must be due to COVID-19
- To be protected under recent State legislation, 25% of the total rent due for September, 2020, to January, 2021, must be paid no later than January 31, 2021. The amount of housing assistance provided by this program will be:
- Provided at the level required for the household to maintain housing, avoid eviction or foreclosure
- Based on financial need and household resources
- Payment provided directly to the landlord
- Available funding is limited
Residents who need tenant rental assistance funds should apply as soon as possible in order to prevent evictions at the end of January under a new state law. Residents may receive up to six months of emergency rental assistance based on the eligibility, need, and funding availability.
