Fine Arts Museums of San Francisco docent Kay Payne presents "After the Ruins: San Francisco's Earthquakes Remembered."
Photographer Arnold Genthe and others captured on film the effects of the city’s earthquakes: collapsing buildings, smoldering ruins, recovery efforts, and survival in tent cities. Photographs, stories, and eyewitness accounts tell of those who dealt with catastrophe—some with courage, heroism and good humor, and some with corrupt and also unscrupulous deeds.
About the presenter: Kay Payne has been with the Fine Arts Museums of San Francisco since 1981, and is active as a docent and lecturer. She enjoys doing research and writing about art in relation to contemporary social history of the time, and she often includes vintage photographs in her lectures.
