Fire Damages Walnut Creek Apartment Building
Witnesses said an electric scooter may have caught fire but investigators were not able to determine the exact cause.
WALNUT CREEK, CA — A fire damaged an apartment building Friday morning in Walnut Creek before being extinguished, the Contra Costa County Fire Protection District said.
The fire was reported shortly after 9:15 a.m. outside a two-story apartment building in the 100 block of Sierra Drive and caused black smoke that was "pretty visible in the neighborhood," fire officials said.
The flames spread to the building and crews worked to extinguish the fire on the first and second floor of the structure, eventually putting it out as of about 9:50 a.m., Con Fire Spokesman Steve Hill told Bay City News Service.

"The fire started in a back yard near an electric scooter but we could not rule out a barbecue or burn barrel that were nearby," Con Fire Spokesman Chris Bachman told Patch.
Crews remained on scene for around two hours for cleanup and to board up part of the unit, Bachman said.
