The SIR organization was established in San Mateo, California in 1958. Membership currently approximates 14,000 retired and semi-retired active men.

SIR DIABLO BRANCH # 8 is popular because it is successful in filling the void created when you leave employment entirely, or you are semi-retired. Then the anticipated occurs, a sudden realization that former work associates are still together, and you are gone… the associates you left behind do not have the time to “pal around” with you during their work day. There is no “water cooler oasis” to visit and chat about politics, taxes and, “who won the game!” Eventually, you realize where you are: alone. Alone, after a robust, dependable, socially structured, organization filling much of your life with work and social connections.

This is when you need our organization, because “The mission of SIR is to improve the lives of its members through fun activities and events, while making friends for life.”

Branch #8 offers as many as 50 activities available to all members. The majority involve wives or partners. These are fabulous, fun filled, participatory activities: Astronomy- Birding-Bocce Ball-Book Exchange-Bowling-Bridge-Car Enthusiast-Chess-Computers & Technology- Digital Photography-Dine in-Dine out- Fishing-Golf-Walkers and Hikers, Pickle Ball-Sirs at The Games-Sirs in the Kitchen -Travelling Sirs -Wine Tasting- and many more keeping body and brain active. SIR is an excellent way to “stay in the game,” keeping busy, meeting with interesting people and sharing experiences. Many who join adopt new interests because of a “new and different social stimulation.” One big reason, is their wives & partners enjoy themselves as they too participate. Joining SIR offers a whole new social world for wives & partners, just as you do, when you both make new friends and new contacts.

Walnut Creek Branch 8 meets once a month for a full service, waited, luncheon. As a meeting highlight we have a well-known, guest speaker to listen to. The fun and camaraderie take place at the Concord Hilton Hotel, large enough to accommodate our 260 plus attendees. Our meetings are held the second Monday of the month except June (Ladies Day Luncheon) and December (Christmas Luncheon.) Membership is open and joining is inexpensive. Invited guests are encouraged to attend a Luncheon or Activity of choice.
