Jackets for Japan Sales at Parkmead Elementary Friday

Proceeds from sale benefit Japan earthquake and tsunami efforts.

Over the school year, Parkmead Elementary School has collected lost and found coats and jackets, all of which have gone unclaimed. They now fill 15 44-gallon bags, said Craig McLeod, Parkmead Education Resources Council.

Students, staff and parents are holding a sale Friday of these these items, some of which would retail for $40 or $50. Proceeds from the sale will go to help toJapan earthquake and tsunami relief efforts.

Volunteers at the school, at 1920 Magnolia Way in Walnut Creek, will lay out the jackets and coats beginning Friday around 12:30 p.m. At 3 p.m. the doors of the multipurpose room open to the public, who can purchase the outerwear items for $3 each.

People who have not claimed their jackets can still do so on Friday before 3 p.m. for a $1 requested donation for storage. Any leftover items will be donated to Goodwill.
