Kissed with the Spirit of '45
Walnut Creek seniors pose with sculpture commemorating historic photo of the VJ Day 'Kiss.'
Some Walnut Creek senior citizens are showing the Spirit of '45.
A bronze sculpture by Seward Johnson of "The Kiss," a famous photograph from VJ Day in August 1945 in Times Square, is making the rounds, including a visit earlier this month to Valley View Lodge, Atria Montego Heights in Walnut Creek. Those who remember VJ Day get a chance to get their picture taken with "The Kiss," or recreate it.
The nonprofit organization Spirit of '45 is asking couples who were together during World War II to submit wedding photos to Couples@Spiritof45.org for inclusion in a mosaic banner to be displayed in Times Square on Aug. 14 this year in celebration of the end of the war.
