Las Lomas Graduates the Class of 2012

Thousands gathered for the ceremony Friday night to bid adieu to this year's Las Lomas graduates.

This year's commencement ceremony was filled tears of sadness, anecdotes from the high school years, advice for the future and reflection on what the future holds for the class of 2012.

This year's graduates have been through a lot together.

Two classmates with bright futures, Matt Miller and Gavin Powell, died in February 2011 in a rafting accident in Walnut Creek.

On Friday, Senior Spencer Head’s speech entitled “More Than a Piece of Paper” touched on the heartache the class experienced together.

“We pulled together as one in such warmth and compassion that embodied the spirits of Matt and Gavin,” said Head. “Their spirits still remain with the class on the field tonight.”

The evening also had many uplifting moments. At the end of the ceremony, the students experienced great joy after all the names of the graduates were read.

Congratulations to the class of 2012 -- "Once a Knight, always a Knight!"
