If you or someone you know is unable to pay their energy bills, MCE and Contra Costa County have two programs that can help.

Save 20% or More on Your Monthly Energy Bill Enrolling in energy bill discount programs such as CARE can reduce your total monthly bills by 20% or more. See if you qualify at mceCleanEnergy.org/carefera.

Get Caught Up on Your Energy Bill You may qualify to receive up to $1,000 per year to cover your late energy bills through the Low Income Home Energy Assistance Program (LIHEAP).* Eligibility is based on household size and income. LIHEAP will not ask you for the money back and it does not affect your credit score, it is funded through Federal and State grants. The payment is made directly to your energy provider.
