Man Accused Of Killing Mother ID'd As Sports Writer
Nicholas Roth is charged in the stabbing death of Darlene Roth, 74, of Walnut Creek.
WALNUT CREEK, CA — A man arrested in Walnut Creek last week following the stabbing death of his mother worked as a part-time sports writer for the Bay Area News Group, the news agency reports.
Nicholas Roth, 41, was arrested last Monday on suspicion of Darlene Roth's murder. She was 74.
Walnut Creek Police say it was Darlene who made the 911 call reporting that she had been stabbed. By the time first responders got her to the hospital, she was pronounced dead.

The Chronicle reports that county prosecutors have charged Roth with one count of murder and one count of elder abuse. He is scheduled for a court appearance on Tuesday.
