Press release from Meals on Wheels:

This holiday season is going to be very different for all of us, but especially for our vulnerable seniors. We always appreciate when companies, organizations, and community members donate needed items to our seniors for the holidays.

With Covid-19, it is even more important we make our seniors feel valued and less isolated, and we also have to follow stricter Covid-19 guidelines. This means we need to limit the number of people dropping off items to the office and must make sure items are still in the original package.
If your company, organization, friend, or faith community group would like to take on a project this year, here are some ideas:

- Start a calendar drive. Calendars should be bundled in groups of 16. Please no religious or political calendars, but a company’s logo is fine.
- Stuff stockings. Stockings can be purchased at most pharmacies and dollar stores. We will need a total of 200 stockings, so as many as your group can assemble would be great! Stockings should be stuffed with non-food items:
- Stamps, note cards, note paper and pens
- Nonslip socks (neutral colors)
- Hand sanitizer
- Batteries (AA and AAA)
- Eyeglass cleaners/screen cleaners
- Eyeglass/mask holders
- Small flashlights
- Phone charging cords
- Tissues
- Small personal care items such as toothpaste, toothbrush, travel size shampoos, lotions
- Soap, mouth wash, nail file or emery board
If your group, company, or organization would like to purchase larger items and have them shipped to our office, our clients could use:
- Digital clocks (Huanuo Digital Calendar Clock)
- Conversation starters (Table Topics)
- Echo Dots
- Stick on LED motion night lights
- Jigsaw puzzles (larger pieces are easier for seniors to see and handle)
- Standing tray tables
- Sudoku puzzles
You can also have them shipped directly when you purchase through our Amazon Smile account.
After clicking the link you may be asked to activate an Amazon Smile account. It’s super easy and costs nothing. Just be sure to choose Meal on Wheels Diablo Region as your charity of choice.
Shipments can be sent to Meals on Wheels Diablo Region, 1300 Civic Drive, Walnut Creek, CA 94596, Attn: Avery.
To arrange a drop-off or to let us know to expect a shipment, please contact Avery at 925-937-8607 or asullivan@mowdr.org. We will send you a tax receipt.
Thank you for helping our seniors enjoy the holiday season!

Patch has partnered with Feeding America to help raise awareness on behalf of the millions of Americans facing hunger. Feeding America, which supports 200 food banks across the country, estimates that in 2020, more than 50 million Americans will not have enough nutritious food to eat due to the effects of the coronavirus pandemic.
