The Nearly Final Round: Council Narrows Candidates For 11 Committee Openings

Walnut Creek City Council will start to narrow the number of candidates for 11 committee openings at Tuesday meeting.

WALNUT CREEK, CA — Councilmembers are weighing candidates for 11 openings on a variety of committees, from the Arts Commission to Parks and Recreation.

On Tuesday, council members will decide which applicants to interview and how they will set the interview process.

Interviews are scheduled on Feb. 17, when appointments are expected to be made.
New openings were widely advertised beginning Jan. 5.

The application period closed Jan. 28 with 47 qualified applications. The Park, Recreation and Open Space Commission drew the largest pool with 16 applicants for two seats, followed by the Transportation Commission with 13 applicants for two seats.

Other applicant totals included eight for the Arts Commission, five for the Iron Horse Corridor Advisory Committee, four for the Board of Appeals, and one for the Design Review Commission.
New commissioners will attend an orientation on Feb. 24. A reception honoring departing, reappointed, and incoming commissioners is scheduled for March 3, followed by the swearing-in ceremony at the City Council meeting later that evening.
