New Coronavirus Cases Slow In Contra Costa County

CONTRA COSTA COUNTY, CA — There's encouraging news in the fight against new coronavirus cases, or COVID-19, in Contra Costa County. The daily count from Contra Costa Health Services increased by only one on Thursday, the third day of a shelter-in-place order. There are now 42 cases in Contra Costa County.

While the coronavirus lock-down is only a few days old, residents were already practicing social distancing last week, with many large companies ordering employees to work from home.

Director of Contra Costa Health Services Anna Roth calls the shelter-in-place order a vital step in stopping the spread of coronavirus, "The order is in place to support social distancing because we know that COVID-19 is now transmitting, spreading in our community, and this order is aiming to slow that spread. We're doing that because we want to protect the most vulnerable in our community as well as reduce the burden on our health care system."

If you need to go out for groceries, many supermarket chains have set up special hours for those over 60, considered at higher risk, and for those with underlying health conditions. Hours that the stores close have also been adjusted to allow for more cleaning time.
