New Walnut Creek Mayor To Be Selected

City Council members will select a new mayor and mayor pro tem to serve for the next year.​

WALNUT CREEK, CA — Newly re-elected members of the Walnut Creek City Council and the City Treasurer will be sworn in at a special Council meeting to be held at 6 p.m. tonight, Monday, Dec. 12.

At the Council meeting, council members will select a new mayor and mayor pro tem to serve for the next year.

Current Mayor Matt Francois was re-elected to his second term as a council member by receiving 36.25 percent — 17,819 — of votes.

Current Mayor Pro-Tem Cindy Silva was re-elected to her fifth term on the Council by garnering 32.90 percent — 16,172 — votes.

City Treasurer Ron Cassano ran unopposed and will serve his eighth term in office.

Outgoing Mayor Matt Francois is expected to share his thoughts about his year as Walnut Creek’s mayor, while the newly-selected mayor will make some remarks looking to the coming year.

The City Council will also adopt a resolution certifying the results of the Nov. 8 election.

In addition to returning the two council members and treasurer back for new four-year terms, Walnut Creek voters approved — by 65.05 percent — a temporary half-cent sales tax increase to fund high-priority needs in the city for the coming 10 years.
