Open Call For Artist in Residency

Program is open to artists, writers, musicians, performers, and designers

The Gardens at Heather Farm is excited to announce an Open Call for applications for the pilot year of a new Artist in Residence program open to artists, writers, musicians, performers, and designers. The goal of this residency program is to support the creation of innovative and transformative artworks that:

  • Further the resident’s practice and the interplay between their practice and the natural world;
  • Enhance the visitor experience through interaction with art and artists;
  • Enrich, enliven and activate The Gardens’ landscapes with projects or performances of durability appropriate to the lifespan of the work;
  • Engage the local community in Walnut Creek and Central Contra Costa County and contribute to the exchange of ideas within and beyond the Bay Area on issues of conservation and our connection to nature.

There is no minimum duration for the Artist in Residence program and Residents can propose projects up to three months in length. Residents receive work space for the duration of their residency and the ability to exhibit their work and program events in our gardens and event spaces. In addition, Residents are asked to give a public artist talk, workshop, performance, or reading to further engage the community with their work as it relates to the natural world.

Applications are currently being accepted online at www.gardenshf.org. Applicants are encouraged to visit The Gardens before submitting. For questions or to schedule a site tour, email the Residency Manager, Erin Wheeler, erin@gardenshf.org. Deadline for applications is March 1st, 2017. All applicants will be notified by March 31st, 2017.
