Rep. Mark DeSaulnier Remains In Critical Condition After Fall
East Bay Congressman Mark DeSaulnier remains in critical condition Tuesday after falling during a run more than a week ago, his family said.

CONTRA COSTA COUNTY, CA — Congressman Mark DeSaulnier (D–Contra Costa County) remains in critical condition Tuesday in an intensive care unit after contracting pneumonia from a traumatic rib fracture he suffered after falling while running, his sons said in a statement.
"We’ve been amazed and moved by the outpouring of support, prayers, and love from everyone who cares so deeply about our dad," DeSaulnier's sons, Tristan and Tucker, said in the statement. "The doctors are hopeful that he remains stable, but he has much improvement to go."
DeSaulnier's office first announced his hospitalization on March 16, saying he was in serious but stable condition. By Saturday, however, his office said his condition had deteriorated and that he was now listed as critical.

"The doctors are doing everything they can to care for the Congressman," Betsy Arnold Mar, DeSaulnier's chief of staff, said Saturday. "Mark's family and staff appreciate your thoughts and prayers during this very difficult time."
DeSaulnier, 67, has tested negative for COVID-19, according to his office. He lives in Concord, and his official biography describes him as an "avid runner," having completed 21 marathons.
