SAT Or ACT ?

Colleges accept either the SAT or the ACT: so which one should you take? While both tests include sections on reading, writing, and math, the differences between them should be taken into careful consideration when you are choosing a test to best demonstrate your skills and knowledge to colleges. Think about what your strengths are, since each test is designed differently. The ACT tends to contain more direct questions written in a straightforward language style and focus on strict knowledge, but has more advanced math questions—basic arithmetic, algebra I, II, geometry, and trigonometry, for example— and a science section (high-school level biology, earth science, and physics) that the SAT does not contain. The SAT, on the other hand, is broken up into more sections, but is notorious for their vocabulary section, and has a more challenging reading comprehension section. Furthermore, you may need to spend time figuring out exactly what the question is asking you on the SAT before you can begin to think of an answer; this can be seen even in their math section, where there are story problems that require creative applications of your basic geometry knowledge. The ACT is a slightly shorter exam, but tests a broader range of subjects than does the SAT.
Consequently, the SAT takes a look at each individual score you got on each separate section, whereas the ACT is more concerned with your overall total score. What are you best at? If you love chemicals, grammar, syntax, and graphs, the ACT may be a better choice for you; if you prefer words, and are better at problem-solving, consider the SAT.
