Senior Project is Locker Room Talk
Soccer goalie Georgia Barnes put together a senior project to replace lockers at Northgate High.
Georgia Barnes' senior project at Northgate High was as practical as a pleasant place to stash your stuff while you're working out on the soccer field.
Working with the Northgate Community Pride Foundation to raise more than $30,000 to defray the $75,000 cost of the project from Measure C funds, Barnes saw through the project of replacing girls lockers.
"Basically NCPF coached and mentored Georgia and she then ran with it," wrote foundation President Ralph Austin in an email. "This enables Northgate High School to stretch their designated Measure C dollars across more site facility improvements on the campus."
Barnes, a goalkeeper on the soccer team, is planning to play for the University of Hawaii team in the fall, according to a feature on the project in the foundation's annual report, attached as a PDF to this article.
Barnes was motivated by the need for locks on the lockers, inspired in part by a friend who had her things stolen last year, according to a feature in the Contra Costa Times.
