The Chamber Ensemble celebrates poet and playwright William Shakespeare’s 450th birthday with a program featuring texts from his sonnets and plays set in various musical genres. We bring you nine composers who offer vibrancy to the words of a man regarded as the greatest writer in the English language. Included are Vaughan Williams, Dominick Argento, Swedish composer Nils Lindberg, Finnish composers Jaakko Mántyjárvi and Juhani Komulainen, and American composers Lane Johnson, Emma Lou Diemer and Steven Sametz. Highlighting the program are seven songs by jazz pianist and composer George Shearing, accompanied by piano and string bass.
