State of the Community Held

Wednesday, June 10, Cancer Support Community San Francisco Bay Area, located in Walnut Creek, hosted their State of the Community event. Over 80 community members, cancer survivors and caregivers, and local dignitaries were in attendance as Cancer Support Community leadership reflected on the past, present, and future of the organization. Founded in 1990 as the Wellness Community, Cancer Support Community is celebrating their Silver Anniversary this year, and their accomplishment of providing free support services to anyone facing cancer. Since 1990, 25,000 people have walked through their doors.

Among those in attendance were Walnut Creek Mayor, Bob Simmons, Pleasant Hill Mayor, Ken Carlson, as well as representatives from the offices of Congressman Mark DeSaulnier, Board Supervisor Karen Mitchoff, Senator Steven Glazer, and Assemblywoman Catharine Baker. Each formally recognized the accomplishments of Cancer Support Community, as well as their milestone of celebrating twenty-five years.
