Walnut Creek Announces Public Hearing For Substantial Amendment To FY19/20 CDBG Annual Action Plan

NOTICE IS HEREBY GIVEN that the City of Walnut Creek City Council will hold a public hearing on Tuesday, November 17, 2020 beginning at 6:00 PM remotely on Zoom to consider the following matter (Zoom detail noted below): Proposed substantial amendment to the FY 2019/20 Community Development Block Grant (CDBG) Substantial Amendment Annual Action Plan to include additional CDBG-CV funds.

Proposed Substantial Amendment to the FY 2019/20 Annual Action Plan

As part of the Coronavirus Aid, Relief, and Economic Security Act (CARES Act) passed on March 27, 2020, the U.S. Department of Housing and Urban Development (HUD) has allocated supplemental Community Development Block Grant Coronavirus (CDBG-CV) funds to entitlement jurisdictions to address the negative impacts of COVID-19. On September 11, 2020, the City of Walnut Creek, as an entitlement jurisdiction, was allocated an additional $439,019 in CDBG-CV funds. In total, the City’s CDBG-CV allocation is $640,393 to respond to, prepare for, and aid in the prevention of COVID-19. The Housing and Community Development (HCD) Committee is recommending these funds to the following activities: Housing (Rent and Mortgage) and Utility Assistance, Tenant/Landlord Services (including Legal Assistance), Homeless Shelter and Services Programs, and Program Administration.

The draft FY 2019-2020 Substantial Amendment to the Action Plan may be reviewed online on the Housing Programs webpage at www.walnut-creek.org/housing. Interested parties are encouraged to submit written comments on the proposed plan during the comment period from November 7 through November 17, 2020. Written comments may be submitted to Sherluna Vien, Assistant Housing Planner, at (924)943-5899, ext. 2652, vien@walnut-creek.org, no later than 8:00am. Oral comments may be made at the November 17, 2020 City Council meeting, or prior to the meeting by email to PublicComments@walnut-creek.org.
