Walnut Creek Extends Moratorium On Marijuana

Several bills are working their way through the state legislature. The city is waiting to see what the state does before acting.

WALNUT CREEK, CA —The Council unanimously voted to extend a temporary moratorium on growing marijuana outdoors, as well as any commercial activity, for up to 22 months.

During this time, the Council will consider the impact of the many related bills making their way through the state legislature, and craft regulations for Walnut Creek.

The council also voted to expand Walnut Creek’s existing smoking ordinance to specifically prohibit marijuana smoke in public places, all of downtown and inside multifamily housing.

The Council made an exception for the vaporization of medical marijuana in multifamily residences.
