Walnut Creek Police Arrest Homicide Suspect

The victim had just left Crogan's Sports Bar & Grill when he was shot in the back three times.

WALNUT CREEK, CA — Police said they arrested a man this evening suspected in the killing of a father and fiancé early Saturday morning in Walnut Creek.

Officers arrested 24-year-old Larry Griffin who's a resident of the unincorporated Contra Costa County community of Bay Point.

Griffin was arrested at about 5:30 p.m. when police executed a search warrant on Michael Place in Bay Point.

Griffin is suspected of gunning down 38-year-old Bay Area man Courtney Brown at 1:28 a.m. at Locust and Cypress streets, between two nightclubs that were letting out, according to police. Brown apparently just left Crogan's Sports Bar & Grill at 1387 Locust St. when he was shot three times in the back at the intersection
between Crogan's and Redux Lounge at 1411 Locust Street. No one else was injured, according to police.

Brown died at John Muir Medical Center.

Police said they believe the shooting is not a random event. Griffin will be booked into the county jail on suspicion of homicide. Police said they will seek to have Griffin held without bail.

No police officers or anyone else was injured as Griffin was arrested.
