WALNUT CREEK, CA — The City of Walnut Creek announced Friday that it has prevailed in a lawsuit over the December 2012 fatal officer-involved shooting of Anthony Banta. The City and all officers involved were exonerated.
The Walnut Creek Police Department said today, "The four officers who responded to the 911 call back in 2012 placed their lives in jeopardy to protect two innocent people. The jury's finding echoes what a prior investigation by the District Attorney's office found, that the four officers were justified in their actions. In addition, the judge commended the four officers (after the verdict was read) for their courage and said if not for their heroic actions that night, more lives may have been lost."
The department stated that anytime a life is lost, it is a tragedy for all of those involved.
