14 Trapped Firefighters Injured Battling Dolan Fire

Three firefighters were air lifted to Community Regional Hospital in Fresno by Life Flight.

BIG SUR, CA — Fourteen Firefighters were injured after flames from Dolan Fire enclosed around them as they worked to defend the Nacimiento Station in Big Sur. One of the firefighters was critically injured and another suffered serious injuries, The Los Padres National Forest reported Tuesday.

Three firefighters were air lifted to Community Regional Hospital in Fresno by Life Flight, the agency reported.

The crew was working to defend the station at 8:30 a.m. from the 73,089 acre fire when they had to deploy a shelter, a device used as a last resort by wild-land firefighters when surrounded or trapped by flames.

Firefighters suffered injuries including burns and smoke inhalation while defending the Nacimiento Station, which was destroyed.

"Our thoughts and prayers are with the injured firefighters, their family, friends and co-workers," said the agency in a news release Tuesday. "We have procedures in place for emergencies such as this and are being assisted by local officials as part of that plan."
