"Any threats made on social media are taken seriously and will be fully investigated by our department without exception," police said.

WATSONVILLE, CA — A 21-year-old was arrested and charged after threatening a graduation mass shooting in a “rage-bait” social media comment, according to Watsonville police.

Moises Resendiz of Watsonville was taken into custody on suspicion of criminal threats after authorities served a search warrant Wednesday morning in the 700 block of Rodriguez Street, police said, adding no guns were found, nor are any registered to Resendiz.

Resendiz threatened a shooting targeting an unspecified Pajaro Valley Unified School District graduation ceremony, according to police, who said he admitted to posting the social media comment.

A person reported the threat to police on May 9, and law enforcement immediately notified school district administrators, police said.

“We want to assure the community that there are no active threats at this moment, and school safety remains a top priority for us,” the Watsonville Police Department said Wednesday in a social media post. “... Any threats made on social media are taken seriously and will be fully investigated by our department without exception.”
