Come and join Public Works’ Engineers and help celebrate National Engineers’ Week by participating in the annual Egg Drop Competition, an Egg-stra special event!

RULES

1. Registration begins onsite at 4:00 p.m. Launching will follow. Registration includes sign-in and placing egg in container.
2. The following are not allowed
   1. wood containers or containers made of a material that could shatter
   2. liquids or gel substances
   3. Styrofoam packing “peanuts”
   4. duct tape or other kinds of reinforced tape
3. One raw egg and one plastic bag shall be provided for each entry. Egg shall be placed in plastic bag within container to minimize mess if the egg breaks.
4. Each entry is allowed one drop
5. Container shall be launched by a designated official. Containers shall be launched by sliding them along a seven foot ramp that is seven inches wide. The ramp is necessary to provide separation between the container and the building.
6. Container must land on the ground and cannot be caught.
7. Participants must clean up and dispose of their own egg and container and repair any damage to public or private property.
8. The winner is the egg that survives the fall with no cracks and comes to rest closest to the target.
9. MESA students will be allowed group and multiple egg entries to comply with MESA rules.

The celebration of National Engineers Week was started in 1951 by the National Society of Professional Engineers in conjunction with President George Washington‘s birthday. President Washington is considered as the nation’s first engineer, notably for his survey work.[1]

The results of the Federal Engineer of the Year Award are announced during the week.
