Aptos High Junior To Serve As Student Trustee On PVUSD Board
Stella Renee Sierra will serve as the 2019-20 student trustee.

WATSONVILLE, CA — An Aptos High School junior will have a big voice in the Pajaro Valley Unified School District. During its Oct. 9 meeting, the PVUSD Board of Trustees announced that Stella Renee Sierra will serve as the 2019-20 student trustee.
As a student trustee, Sierra has the responsibility to collaborate with students from all schools so she can effectively represent them at PVUSD board meetings. She has the same general responsibilities as other the trustees.
“I am honored to be a new member of the PVUSD Board of Trustees," Sierra said during the Oct. 9 meeting. "Currently I am a junior at Aptos High School. I keep myself busy with a rigorous academic schedule, including three AP classes, an honors class and a number of extracurricular activities. I am both a member of Aptos High’s Associated Student Body and the vice president of Bring Change to Mind club designed for teens to bring awareness to mental health.

"My real passion is dance," Sierra continued. "I have been dancing competitively since the age of 6 and I currently serve as one of the captains on [the] Aptos High Dance Team. With the very little free time I have, I love spending time with my friends and going to the beach. One of my favorite quotes is 'Be silly. Be fun. Be different. Be crazy. Be you, because life is too short to be anything but happy.'”
PVUSD Board President Karen Osmundson expressed her support for Sierra during the meeting. “I am proud to lead a board that values student voice," she said. "As a trustee, Stella will contribute to the conversation on school governance, provide the very important student point of view on agenda items, and be a key contact for her peers and the community.”
