Arrest Made In Machete Attack At Campsite Off East Lake Avenue
The victim was at Watsonville Community Hospital and told police he was assaulted when he went to pick up a friend.

A man who allegedly assaulted another man with a machete in a field northeast of Watsonville early this morning was arrested, a Santa Cruz County sheriff’s spokesman said.
Lawrence Saavedra, 41, was arrested on suspicion of assault with a deadly weapon and will be booked into county jail, sheriff’s Lt. Kelly Kent said. Shortly before 6 a.m., deputies were called to Watsonville Community Hospital to investigate a reported assault, Kent said.
Arriving deputies spoke with the 42-year-old victim, who said he was picking up a friend who lived at a campsite near East Lake Ave and Holohan Road, across from Lakeview Middle School, Kent said.

The victim had gone to the field where a man, later identified as Saavedra, allegedly attacked him with a machete, according to Kent.
The deputies went to the campsite where they found Saavedra and arrested him, Kent said.

The victim was treated for moderate injuries and released later in the morning, according to Kent.
