CA Fugitive Charged With Child Rape Found Working In IL Restaurant: Police

The 59-year-old was taken into custody at the restaurant and was held pending extradition, police said.

GLENDALE HEIGHTS, IL — A fugitive who fled Monterey County on numerous charges of sex crimes against children was recently discovered to be working at a restaurant in the Chicago suburbs, according to police.

Jorge Martinez-Trejo, 59, was charged with sex or sodomy with a child age 10 or younger, forcible lewd act upon a child, aggravated sex assault of a child, forcible rape of a child in which the victim is over 14, and oral copulation or sexual penetration with a child 10 or younger, police said.

An arrest warrant with a $14 million bond was issued in June 2023 by the Salinas Police Department, according to the Cook County Sheriff’s Office in Illinois.

Investigators with the U.S. Marshals Great Lakes Regional Fugitive Task Force recently learned Martinez-Trejo was working at a restaurant in Glendale Heights, Illinois, and, on March 24, they went to the business and took him into custody, police said. He was being held at the Cook County jail awaiting extradition to California, according to the sheriff’s office.

The Sheriff’s Fugitive Apprehension Unit collaborated with the task force on the arrest.
