Deputies ID 2 Suspects In 2014 Murder Of Seaside Man

Khalik Kennedy, a Seaside High School grad, husband and father of three, was shot dead while walking to his car, officials said.

MONTEREY COUNTY, CA – The Monterey County Sheriff's Office is pursuing charges against two suspects in connection with the April 2014 shooting of 35-year-old Khalik Kennedy in Seaside, sheriff's officials reported Tuesday morning.

Kennedy was shot and killed while walking to his parked car in the area of San Pablo Avenue and Shawnee Court, according to deputies, who said he grew up in the city and played football for Seaside High School.

He left behind his wife, two daughters and a son, according to an online obituary posted in 2014.

Four years later, deputies said they have identified Pedro Pinedo and Martin Trinidad as suspects in Kennedy's killing.

Pinedo is currently serving a prison sentence for a sexual assault conviction in 2015 and Trinidad is in custody in the Monterey County jail for being a felon in possession of a gun, which deputies said stemmed from a
Norteno gang rap video involving firearms.

Sheriff's officials said they are seeking additional charges against Pinedo in connection with a February 2014 shooting in the 1700 block of Luxton Street where a victim survived his injuries, and a March 2014 shooting in the 1600 block of Noche Buena Street where a suspect was shot inside a home and survived.

Pinedo may face murder, attempted murder and assault with a firearm charges while Trinidad may face gang conspiracy charges.
