Deputies Replace Child's Stolen Wheelchair Ramp: Watsonville

The Santa Cruz County Deputy Sheriff's Association stepped up by purchasing a new ramp and bringing it to the family.

WATSONVILLE, CA — Deputies with big hearts were in force Thursday when they bought a wheelchair ramp for a Watsonville girl who had hers stolen.

Early Thursday morning, the Santa Cruz County Sheriff's Office was notified by a Watsonville family that a wheelchair ramp had been stolen from their front yard. The ramp was used by their young daughter to get in and out of the family home.

The incident was caught on video surveillance.

Hearing about the crime, the Santa Cruz County Deputy Sheriff’s Association stepped up by purchasing a new ramp and bringing it to the family Thursday in hopes of making their lives a bit easier.

The girl's mother was overcome with emotion when the deputies brought the ramp to the family and set it up in the front yard of their home. She said it made the family "so happy, especially my daughter ... especially for her because it's something that she needs."
